2007年《地理学报(英文版)》被SCI数据库收录以来，在编委会和广大作者、读者的支持下，得到了快速发展，影响因子逐年增加，2013年影响因子达到1.123。2014年该期刊被Springer出版社选为重点推介期刊，并于近期开通了高被引论文的免费阅读和下载服务。2013年以来有5篇高被引论文在2015年1月18日前可免费阅读和下载。
