讲座简介:The dynamic and changing land use and forest management in Lao PDR reflects the country's efforts to balance development goals with environmental sustainability. Despite its high percentage of forest cover, the country has experienced significant deforestation and degradation of forest resources due to agricultural expansion, infrastructure development, mining, and logging. The government has implemented several strategies to promote sustainable forest and land management and combat deforestation, including the National Land Use Master Plan, the National Forest Strategy, and updated forestry and land laws. Community-based forest management practices and sustainable agricultural approaches are increasingly being promoted to strike a balance between conservation goals and local livelihood development. However, issues such as limited enforcement capacity, ambiguous land tenure rights, and socio-economic pressures continue to pose significant challenges. Strengthening governance, clarifying legal frameworks, and encouraging community engagement are all critical to achieving sustainable land use and forest management in Lao PDR.
