报告人简介：

Professor John Pomeroy is the recipient of the 2025 International Hydrology Prize – Dooge Medal, awarded by the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and by the World Meteorological Organization. In addition to being a Distinguished Professor in Department of Geography and Planning in University of Saskatchewan, Prof. Pomeroy is also the director of the USask Centre for Hydrology, principal chairholder of the UNESCO Chair in Mountain Water Sustainability, and a member of the Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS). He also directs the Global Water Futures (GWF) program and GWF Observatories (GWFO), the largest university-led freshwater research and monitoring operation in the world. He is the world’s most-cited snow hydrologist, and his research into glaciers, snow and ice hydrology, and hydrological modelling has elevated him as a world-class hydrological researcher. Prof. Pomeroy visited our institute to attend the third IAHS-PUB-China Conference http://oa.igsnrr.ac.cn/asp/listNews.asp?id=17373&classid=1 in 2010 when he was the rotating Chair of IAHS International Decade, the Predictions for Ungauged Basins (PUB) from 2002 to 2012.

This Talk reviews the objectives and achievements of UN’s International Year for Glaciers’ Preservation 2025 and the need, for capabilities in observations and modelling to support, and enabling structure of the Decades of Actions for Cryospherics Sciences (2025-2034) since IAHS PUB Decade (2002-2012).
