报告题目1 Deep challenges and China's water pollution plan

报告人1 Dr Matthew Currell (Senior Lecturer in Environmental Engineering, RMIT University Melbourne Australia)

  时间:3:00-3:30 pm Monday (2nd July)

报告摘要 The chronic pollution of ground and surface water in China are part of the country’s broader pollution crisis that has unfolded in the early 21st Century, which also affects air, soil and food. The full scale and extent of this crisis is still unfolding, particularly with respect to soil and water pollution, for which there is less data available than air pollution. However, there is already ample evidence that it has taken a severe toll on public health, quality of life and caused significant economic damage. In the last couple of years, particularly since the Central Government began it’s ‘war on pollution’, the severity of water pollution and its impacts are becoming clearer.

报告人简介: Dr Matthew Currell Received his PhD from Monash University in 2011, having completed a hydrochemical and isotopic investigation of groundwater resources and groundwater sustainability in the Yuncheng Basin, North China. Dr Currell now lectures at RMIT University in the school of Civil, Environmental & Chemical Engineering, and has active collaboration projects with the EPA (Victoria), Department of Environment & Primary Industries, and Melbourne Water. Currently he is an associate editor of the Hydrogeology Journal.

报告题目2 Biochar from pyrolysis of deinking paper sludge and its use in the remediation of Zn-polluted soils

报告人2 Dr Jorge Paz-Ferreiro (Senior Lecturer in Environmental Engineering, RMIT University Melbourne Australia)

  时间:3:30-4:00 pm Monday (2nd July)

报告摘要: An increasing proportion of recycled fibres are used in paper industries. Removing the ink, clay, coatings and contaminants from paper waste in order to produce recycled fibres creates large amounts of deinking paper sludges. The preparation of biochar from pyrolysis of this waste and its use in soil remediation contaminated with heavy metals could be an interesting valorization alternative. Three different soils contaminated with 2000 mg Zn kg-1 were amended at a rate of 10% with deinking paper sludge and deinking paper sludge biochar prepared at three different temperatures (300, 400 and 500 °C). Soils were incubated under laboratory conditions, and soluble Zn was measured. The addition of biochar reduced the amount of mobile Zn. Finally, Zn solubility decrease was more pronounced for biochars prepared at a higher temperature.

报告人简介: Jorge Paz-Ferreiro was awarded his PhD in 2007 at Santiago de Compostela University. He has worked as a post-doc at Lancaster University, Madrid Technical University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Jorge joined RMIT University in 2014, where he is currently a lecturer in Environmental Engineering. His main research interests are the recycling of waste materials into the soil and land pollution.

研究生系列报告从4:30开始, 主要报告内容包括Agricultural water management practices in inland arid region, Eco-environmental effects of reclaimed water, and groundwater contamination in karst aquifers of southwestern China等。
