报告题目:Historical and future perspectives of surface hydrological change at the global scale

报 告 人:Professor Simon Gosling

Abstract

Professor Gosling will discuss how global hydrological modelling has been used to improve our understanding of past and future changes in water scarcity, droughts and floods. The talk will explore the models used in this area of science and community efforts to compare the models. Professor Gosling will also present evidence for the attribution of historical trends in extreme river flows to climate change, the evidence to show that recent changes in hydrology are beyond the planetary boundary for freshwater change, as well as projections of future water scarcity and drought across the globe.

Biography

Professor Gosling is a global-scale climate risk analyst and knowledge integrator, with expertise in climate change impacts assessment, flooding, droughts, water scarcity, heatwaves, labour capacity, human health, and compound risks. He uses numerical environmental modelling, uncertainty assessment & knowledge integration to understand adaptation and resilience requirements to climate change at national, regional and global levels.

Professor Gosling regularly appears on Web of Science’s Highly Cited Researcher List and his research has been cited around 500 timesin policydocuments. He features onthe ReutersHot List of theworld's 1,000most influential climate scientists and he is a winner of the Lloyds Science of Risk Prize. The UK's Collaborative on Development Research identified Professor Gosling's research as one of their"Top 20” examples of how UK research is improving the lives of people around the world. He is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society.
